NLP and Learning

Hi all

I got into NLP from the learning perspective. I like to explore different strategies for study and learning in general (since using strategies for getting through my degree). NLP looks like a good additional source. Any pointers will be great

The forum itself is all good, but maybe it would be fun talking to each other about it, on msn.
What we just learned, new thoughts, irl challanges, members can also decide a challanges for others.
Of course we can’t know members will do a task, but i hope as many as possible are honest, waste of time otherwise really.
This will motivate us more and we also learn / remember easier!

The group is about: NLP/Body language/Hypnosis.

I will read up on NLP/Body language myself and later hypnosis.
To make the group more personal, let’s keep it to a maximum of 20 members.

I live in Sweden myself and i’m 25+

NLP & Consciousness

Hey guys, I’m relatively new to the whole field of NLP. I have only really used it to help me [successfully] quit smoking, so I believe in the potential that NLP has.

I have [relatively] recently started to follow Buddhist philosophy, in particular, but spiritual philosophy in general, and have started to engage in basic meditation practices. From my limited engagement with both Spirituality and NLP, I believe that there are a number of potentially powerful synergies that could be explored.

From my limited perspective, I would say that NLP is effectivley a form of "spiritual" practice/exercise, as it is focused on the cultivation of certain mind states. It does however seem to focus on programming the subconsciuos mind, while some meditative practices are focused on simply becoming aware of habitaul mind tendencies, and cultivating a greater awareness of oneself, and one’s mind.

I was just wondering if there are any specific NLP exercises, that focus more on the cultivation of simple awareness of one’s mind and habitual behaviours, in a similar manner to mindfulness meditation?

Also, I was wondering if there are any NLP excercises focused on the development of such things as compassion?

Many thanks.

Hi from Oslo, Looking to Network

Hi from Oslo!

I am in my late twenties and would like to network with friends, any like-minded friends, especially those in their twenties and thirties. Maybe via IM where we can share knowledge.

I have never officially learn NLP but have been reading it on and off for the past few years, and have a knack on psychology too.

Cheers@

NLP for Academic Achievement

I try to achieve highly in school and had really terrible behavior, concentration and study habits. I learnt about NLP and used it to get some high grades but i think i could do some things to make life easier.

I notice that other students have to coerce themselves into studying by motivating themselves through fear (of exams), pressuring & deliberately stressing themselves, which has terrible side effects like hair falling out, insomnia, frustration and complete loss of confidence.

I feel that I’m really getting into these types of things, I have fluctuations of motivation. I get really motivated (and get real enjoyment from studying) around exam/test times. But i don’t have much motivation when exams are far away and everything starts to get a little boring. Teachers give advice like "study in short bursts and reward yourself" but i remember reading a book on NLP that said success mastery is all about creating a state mastery where you can easily motivate yourself without having to coerce yourself constantly. I think that would be great! :) Also around exam times i get a little doubtful and scared which is annoying.

I i’ve tried some exercises like thinking of a time when i was successful (in a test or something) and then seeing myself in the experience and playing around with the sub modalities. Or anchor states of mind to fire off when i need them. But when i try to see myself it isnt all that vivid. I cant really notice any colour difference or see it near or far away. No matter what experience i always see myself associated and all over and around me. its not to the left or right so i cant move it. Colours the same, not too bright, not too dark. I also don’t significantly feel that emotion of success happiness. I feel a little excited but not much. But when I’m not trying to do any NLP and I’m just day dreaming i feel like i see things alot more vividly and the emotions are much stronger.

Is this just a practice thing? Do just need to try more?

Also what are some things i can do to give me motivation whenever i want? Do i try use an anchor?
I think there isnt much point in trying that until i can actually feel the experiences alot more vividly.

Any suggestions or ideas that could help me would be really appreciated :)

I’m seriously considering doing an NLP course after exams in the holidays (I live a 5 hour drive away from anything NLP so its not all that easy). Especially since I’ve got Uni next year which means things will get a little harder. I’ve heard stories about students going mental because they cant really control anything thats happening in their heads easily :? .

Thread Moved from NLP Seduction and Relationships

re:"You also forgot to mention that he doesn’t stalk people and hijack their threads to extoll the virtues of his favorite trainer. Maybe you should follow his lead."

You are absolutely correct. I ?ll have to start ?stalking? someone who actually tell the difference between really good trainers like John Grinder, John Lavalle , Chris Collingwood, Doug O? Brien, , and those whose judgment of trainers is limited to postings from Internet Forums and second hand info from mud slinging competitors of certain trainers.

but since you won’t take my word for it, ask some SEASONED NLP’ers on this site like Michael Debusk or James Tsakalos(also on this site). I guarantee you they will know.

Multi-level Communication

I have a few questions about multi-level communication:

Q1: How does it work?
To the best of my knowledge, I think that it is achieved by various combinations of ambiguities, analog marking, and metaphors. The example in my mind is something like Finnegan Wake by James Joyce, a book about nothing and everything at the same time, being "acomedy of letters" and "farced epistol to the highbruws." It is only natural that one message has several different interpretations to different people with different background and different state of mind. Does multi-level communication mean to have some control over the different interpretations?

Q2: What is the purpose of it?
I thought that it is all about communicate with conscious and subconscious mind at the same time, while bypassing the conscious in order to give some suggestions to the subconscious. But there are just 2 level in this sense, aren’t there?

Any other insight about this topic is very much welcomed.

Specialist Practitioner in Neuro Hypnotic Repatterning

Neuro Hypnotic Repatterning is the latest of 3 areas of work developed by Dr Richard Bandler. It has recently been newly certified and licensed by the Society of NLP. This very special qualification recognises the unique nature of NHR and those people who utilise this powerful process to change their lives and the lives of others.
What is Neuro Hypnotic Repatterning?

Dr Richard Bandler says that this is the closest he ever comes to teaching other people how he actually works with clients himself.
Dr Bandler says ?This is about using very deep trance tools to be able to make very pervasive changes across a wide range of behaviour to teach people the most important thing, which is to spend more time practicing feeling good than they do feeling bad so it becomes a habit.?
NHR uses the hypnotic process to restructure experiences that people have at the neurological and chemical level. Instead of teaching people to lead with their minds, NHR teaches you to lead with your feelings. You learn to saturate your neurology with the chemicals that make us feel good. Because if you get your whole body in the right state there?s just about nothing that human beings can?t do. The only question is how much pleasure can you stand, how much excitement can you stand, how much success can you have?
What is the difference between NLP and NHR?

The difference between NLP and NHR is not in the techniques but the outcome which is different. Instead of teaching people to lead with their minds we are teaching people to lead with their feelings. We are saturating our neurology with the chemicals that make us feel good.
Practitioner courses give people great techniques and great language skills. This workshop is the format around which these things become immensely more useful.
No previous experience in NLP is necessary to benefit from NHR. It is a good place to start learning as it is easier to learn than NLP. For more advanced practitioners, it enables you to create more profound and lasting change for your clients. The difference is between programming and repatterning!!

My Meta Model Understanding…….?

I have just started thinking about the meta model and just wondered if this following sentence of my understanding of it is correct:

You have 5 subconcious filters (analogy- like 5 secretaries) that process the information from our senses by deleting, distorting and generalising (like filing) information from our senses and this can lead to an internal representation and our map/understanding of our enviornment/world we live in and therefore our state?

The 5 filters (really all just 1 expression of your memories/ stored info from all stimuli you’ve experienced) are each learned and stored representations of all the information stimuli you have experienced so far and filter future information according to the beliefs, memories, values etc. you have thus allowing a faster response to stimuli from senses to learn and store more information, as you already understand and know what this info is, otherwise every time you get info/stimuli from senses it would be like starting from scratch and nothing would ever make sense and therefore evolution would be a lot more difficult! These filters affects the way you behave and feel. they guide your thoughts, and therfore feelings and behaviour.

One approach to feeling and behaving how you want to is to clean out the 5 main filters with the use of submodalities etc.?

You need these filters as a way to gather what is important and not go mad by conciously noticing every single piece of information around you?
